ME AND MY PEER REVIEWS
“The receiver is totally in control of feedback, but the control is not necessarily conscious.”
Overall my feedback from peers was positive, I was hard working, volunteered for outside work, and had positive ideas. The one comment that stood out to me was one that said that I needed to speak up more and participate more. This one, I definitely agreed with. I don’t usually volunteer my ideas, thoughts, or opinions in class; this is one thing that I have been trying to do more especially in our Group Dynamics class. I know that I am a hard worker and an encourager and a positive person. Just like my peer evaluator my self evaluation for would be and is that I did not speak up more or volunteer to go in for more fishbowls. I really didn’t mind going into the Fishbowls once I was there, but I always felt really nervous about going in. One comment said that I was absent which I am pretty sure was not the case on that day. Physically I was there, but I didn’t make my presence known to the group. I sat as an observer of the group instead of as a participator of group discussions. When this reality really began to change for me was when the subject of the WIKI GIST was brought up, and as a class we were told by Steph that we needed to decide. This was an important decision because even though we didn’t know the figure yet, we knew that this assignment was going to be a huge portion of our grades and the majority of the purpose of this class. As temper rose and opinions were being shot out right and left, I suddenly began to become involved. I felt that if my peers were getting this passionate about the gist that I should probably become more involved! My only regret for this class was that I didn’t speak up sooner. In some ways I wish I had seen this Peer Review earlier on in the coarse, but honestly I knew what I was lacking! Anyways I feel that the Receivers Fact is correct. You get what you put out basically and others pick up on it pretty readily.

Portion B
4.) Goal-setting is a responsibility that I share.
For this answer I chose TRUE! I feel that in order to fulfill a goal you have to first set one! I think I have taken responsibility for setting goals especially within my coarse Wiki group. Ashley and I took it upon ourselves to decide what we wanted our portion of the site to look like, and how we were going to achieve it.
10.) Our class/group has all the roles necessary to achieve optimum group growth and productivity.
I chose true for number 10, I think our class most definitely has the roles necessary to achieve optimum growth and productivity. I think any group has the potential for that matter. At first I was worried that our class would be caught in the storming phase for the entire semester, but after we reached the calming phase I started to notice how different members of the class began filling role that were beneficial to success, the leaders stepped up, and the followers contributed and I can already see that our coarse WIKI is amazing, our pages look better than most of the other pages I have seen! (Not to boast or anything)
11.) Our class/group has not yet generated effective work on the problem of role-required ness. I chose false for “our class has not yet generated effective work on the problem of role required ness” because I believe that there is no right or wrong answer to which role are required to fulfill “optimum group growth and productivity (Benne and Sheats) I don’t remember ever talking to my peers and saying “I am going to fulfill the role as follower in order to make the coarse Wiki a success.” I feel like within the group people contributed and worked together to decide on a project and then to create our Coarse Wiki. I think we have generated effective work!
15.) I have role flexibility. I feel that I have switched roles many times within our group dynamics class. I have been a Recorder when I examined the fishbowls and observed my peers for decision making procedures. I feel I have been a Contributor when I went into the fishbowl and gave my ideas. I feel I have been an Encourager, when I agreed and accepted the contributions of others (Benne Sheats)
16. Developing role flexibility is an important objective of group member training.
The three roles I flex among the most are: a) encourager, b) recorder, c)follower. My decision to flex is based upon: The situation of the group and the roles that others play within it. Two factors are that when there was no one else to step up as leader in our group project, I did, I am not a leader usually but because of the circumstances of the group and some people not contributing or even responding to our group; I had to take the lead in order for my groups grade not to suffer. Another example is when I was as follower, one time I went along with the group and acted passively in order to keep the peace and just get the work done.
18.) I never find myself resisting the retraining required to be a functional group member. I responded False for resisting the retraining required to be a functional group member. I think it has been hard for me in certain situations to not feel tension or anxiety. I really don’t like speaking in class, I definitely have gotten batter at it through this class, but this anxiety for speaking has caused me to not say things that I should have. I also found that when I did I would try to just go along with the group to ease tension which is also a problem when you are trying to work in a functional group.

Umass Traditions!
The next steps and longterm goals of the nightlife group a.k.a UMASS Traditions is to begin uploading our photos and formatting the Wiki pages correctly! Our group does not have experience with formatting and creating web pages so our main goal is to learn how to do this and come out with a presentable and accomplished Wiki Page. Our long term goals are to create the best wiki page that we can, and give other UMASS students a resource to fun places to go out in Amherst.

I Can’t Look You In The Eye……
This phrase can mean so many different things. When I first saw the cover of the book I thought the boy did not want to look someone in the eye but was being told by his parent to do so. “…this was something that people would say to the child…” Telling someone to “look me in the eye” can also mean a level of honesty, that a person can tell how genuine someone is by whether they can look you in the eye or not. This is not true in the case of the book, for someone with Asperger’s it is difficult to look others in the eye, it has nothing to do with how genuine that person is, or there capability to be honest or not. “I imagined someone telling an autistic person to look them in the eye…I was already aware that its difficult” I was not aware of the difficulty until I read this book about John Elder Robison . I am really glad that I did because sometimes it is taken as a lack of interest or that as someone doesn’t want to talk to you when they don’t look you in the eye, when actually they can’t.

My Pitch!!
I am a transfer student here at UMASS, and coming in last semester I felt very out of the loop. Even though I was surrounded by tons of people everywhere I still felt lost! I would love to get to know more about clubs and activities going on around campus. I’m sure I’m not alone in this. There are always club sign-ups in the Blue Wall but I never have time to really look them over. If this information was available online on the Umass Wiki I think many students would use it as a resource! I also would like to get to know more about the other students, especially in our Group dynamics class. I like what Summer22 had to say about making individual pages about ourselves! Perhaps we could all do our own individual pages as well as pages based on group activities, clubs sports teams ect… or any other type of UMASS organization that we are interested in?!

I Love YOU… means so many things
I Love You is a word that is heard in many contexts and between many different types of relationships. The meaning of love is diverse, but somehow through the context in which it is used, conveys its purpose. In America especially, the word love and “I love you” gets tossed around many times a day. The words can be shared and felt between families friends, and lovers. Love is even known to be experienced at first sight. Love is a feeling, but it has different feelings within it. For example, you love your mother in a different way then you love your significant other. This does not mean that you love either one of them more, but the feeling is different even though you “love” both of them. Sometimes you can love someone for a period of time, but that love goes away, or you can love someone forever like your child, regardless of what they do and if they hurt you. I have yet to hear the word Love in our Group Dynamics class (Sorry to say, especailly not last week!) But I have seen feelings of caring, and thoughtfulness, and kindness, which all can be related to love. In some of the fishbowls and Schein groups people are very thoughtful and considerate of the other classmates feelings, some people try to be accepting and make the others feel important. I noticed this a lot with Ally, after someone expresses and idea or opinion she tries to say an accepting approval after. This helps a lot in a class called Group Dynamics because everyone wants to feel apart of the class and whats to know that there opinions are understood and appreciated. Ally really helps to do this. as well as others i’ve seen among the class, but I’m still learning names! Showing love does not have to be in saying it. I personally think that the word gets thrown around way too much. Its nice to hear it but knowing its gentuity is sometimes difficult. I think Love is shown, and since love can be shown in many different ways, i’m sure its being shown in our class, but maybe we don’t always recognize it as love. I personally think that the main purpose of being on this earth is to love and be loved and so maybe we should try harder in our class to be kinder and more accepting of each other, instead of yelling and getting on each others cases about a WIKI project?!

I wish I could go!
After reading the information of the cruelties of what is going on on in Columbia, It made me really want to go to the protest. Unfortunately I cannot go due to child care, but I really want to support the cause. I don’t understand why this kind of inhumane treatment to innocent people is able to occur. What makes me more frustrated is that I only knew about this because of this class and the information that Steph has given!!! I know this is a communications course that deals with group dynamics. I feel that by not participating in the protest i am not supporting the cause and for this I feel left out. I wish that there was some other way that I could help. Its hard for me because I am a single mom and not able to always up and go to places that I want to! I would like to research this subject more to find ways that I can participate even if I am unable to attend in person. I am also excited to hear that FACEBOOK was an outlet for information. After reading about the No Mas farc, I went on face book (I admit it I have an account) and joined the group against the violence an kidnapping! I hope that there are other ways that I can become involved helping to stop what is going on!!

Questions!
I am coming up with new questions regarding my topic. My cultural text is Gone With The Wind, a movie made in 1939 that is based on the book “Gone With The Wind.” This cultural phenomenon deals with many issues and raises many questions, like those of race, gender, social class, and nationality. How is racism seen in the movie and in relation to what was going on in 1939? How were African Americans portayed in the movie? How were Southerners and Northerners viewed in the movie? How was the Old South validated? Why did people absolutley love this film, but at the same time why is there so much controvery around it? These are all questions I am trying to find answers to!
